Your Med Spa in the Making: The Recovery Guide for Injectables

Toxins. Injectibles. The overarching brand that is Botox. No matter which way you refer to this fan favorite Med Spa treatment, it’s made a lasting impression on the aesthetic world and cosmetic journeys alike.
Toxins like Botox, Dysport, Daxxify, and Xeomin are common injectables that leave you feeling youthful and refreshed. Each might come with its own chemical formula that refines features, smooths lines, and prevents wrinkles but regardless, they’re all popular treatments that work.
What happens after you leave your appointment is entirely up to you. Your surgeon, nurse, or licensed injector may be responsible for the overall look and feel of your rejuvenated face, but you control recovery. Your healing will be accompanied by a provider’s instructions, sure. It is your job to follow them, though, so your results are as perfected as you imagined.
The Complete Timeline for Recovery
The Immediate Phase (0-24 Hours After): The skin will be sensitive to the touch, and you can expect some slight swelling or redness. It’s also totally normal to bruise a bit but this subsides faster than you think. Small bumps may also appear at the injection site, but they usually go away after 30 minutes to an hour.
The Next Two Days (24-72 Hours Later): Swelling generally gets a little worse before it gets better, and the skin starts to tighten. This means the toxin is doing its job. It’s important to trust the process and avoid rubbing or massaging the injected area until this point.
The End of Week 1 (From Days 4-7): At last, the smoothing process begins, and it becomes quite visible. Muscles start to really relax and in general, your results start to show themselves.
The End of the Healing Process (10-14 Days Out): The final outcome finally settles, swelling and bruising should be completely gone, and it’s time to set a follow-up appointment (if your provider recommends it).
Tips for the Healing Phase
Stay Elevated: Sit upright for the first 6 hours after your treatment, and sleep with extra pillows under your head for about 1-2 nights.
Ice Your Pretty Face: Throughout the “immediate phase,” apply a cold compress or ice pack for about 1-15 minutes at a time (here and there) to reduce swelling.
Put the Makeup Aside: Avoid wearing makeup for 24 hours after the treatment. Makeup could irritate injection sites. After the first day, make sure your brushes are clean!
Skip the Sweat: Don’t work out intensely or sit in saunas, hot tubs, or steamy showers for the first few days. Let’ your your muscles heal naturally with regulated blood flow.
